For Dr. Cierra DeLay, medicine is more than just a career—it’s a calling that brings her back to the heart of Central Washington, where she was raised. As a dedicated provider at Yakima Neighborhood Health Services (YNHS), she embodies the mission of serving underserved communities and ensuring that quality healthcare reaches those who need it most.
“I grew up in Central WA and witnessed how difficult quality healthcare is for those in underserved communities. I wanted to help close those gaps and improve the care those communities receive.”
Dr. DeLay grew up in Royal City, Washington, a small rural town in the agricultural heartland of Washington state, where she first observed the challenges of accessing quality healthcare. Inspired by these experiences, she pursued her undergraduate studies at Central Washington University in Ellensburg before earning her medical degree at Pacific Northwest University in Yakima. She then completed her residency at Central Washington Family Medicine, solidifying her commitment to serving the region she calls home.
“I never intend to leave Central Washington,” she says. “My family and I love it here.”
Because of what she saw growing up, Dr. DeLay’s decision to work in underserved communities was deeply personal. As a recipient of the HRSA – NHSC scholarship, she was required to serve in a high-need area—but for her, it was more than an obligation. It was an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a place she cares about deeply. She joined YNHS in August 2021. Since then, Dr. DeLay has found immense fulfillment in her work. She appreciates the clinic’s holistic approach to patient care, which integrates medical, behavioral health, and social services under one roof.
“Being able to connect patients with housing resources, behavioral health support, and insurance assistance makes a real difference in their lives,” she explains. “And the people here—our team—are truly incredible.”
For Dr. DeLay, the most rewarding aspect of her job is knowing that her hard-earned skills are helping improve the lives of those in need. Her philosophy of care is simple yet profound: meet the patient where they are and empower them with the tools to take charge of their health.
Dr. DeLay encourages new medical residents to embrace a broad scope of practice early in their careers.
“Don’t narrow your focus too soon,” she advises. “Find a job that challenges you with a diverse patient population and complex medical cases. Residency prepares you well, but nothing compares to being on your own and making critical decisions independently.”
When she’s not in the clinic, Dr. DeLay enjoys life in Central Washington with her family. She spends much of her free time outdoors, gardening, tending to their chickens, and working on home renovation projects. She cherishes the region’s natural beauty, access to fresh produce, and the perfect balance between small-town life and proximity to larger cities.
For those considering a career in Central Washington, Dr. DeLay believes the region offers both professional fulfillment and a high quality of life.
“Central Washington is a hidden gem,” she says. “The community, the opportunities, and the lifestyle—it’s all here.”
Through her work at YNHS, Dr. Cierra DeLay continues to make a lasting impact, proving that healthcare is not just about treating symptoms but about uplifting entire communities. If you’re looking for a career with purpose, where your work truly matters, YNHS might just be the place for you.
